What can I put in my Blue Box?
You can put glass bottles and jars, food and drinks cans, tin foil,
clean clothes, bed linen, towels, curtains and shoes into your blue
box. Give jars or tins a quick rinse, but don’t worry about
removing the labels. Ensure you double bag clothes, linen, towels
or curtains to keep them dry - in some areas of Rotherham we provide
special bags for this purpose.

What should I leave out of my Blue
Box?
Please don’t put any food, normal household waste or kitchen
waste out for collection. We are also not able to process drinking
glasses, broken glass, Pyrex, oily or soiled clothes. We can offer
an additional service for the collection of UPV-c windows at a small
charge.

How do I recycle things I can’t
put in my Blue Box?
At the moment Creation cannot accept plastics or kitchen waste for
recycling. However, the 4 Council-run Household Waste Recycling
Centres can accept these materials and many more.

We don’t produce much waste
that can be recycled, is it worth putting out my Blue Box every
week?
Creation exists not only to manage recycling, but also to create
local employment. The more Blue Boxes there are to collect, the
more waste there is to recycle and the more jobs there are. So,
even if you only have 1 can, 1 bottle, put it in your Blue Box and
put them out for collection every week. Every little helps!

My kitchen is tiny; there isn’t
room for a Blue Box. Where can I keep it?
Many people keep theirs in a shed or garage or outside in the yard
by the bin.

I
don’t like the idea of an open Blue Box of waste, can I get
a lid?
Research across the country shows that the majority of recycling
schemes do not use lids for the following reasons:
- They frequently get lost or blown away.
- They significantly increase the time spent collecting the boxes.
- They significantly increase the total cost of the scheme.
However, it is possible to purchase a lid for £1. This money
is donated to the Mayor’s charity. Contact the RMBC Helpline
on 01709 382121 if
you would like to purchase one. If you do have a lid it is your
property and cannot be replaced free of charge. It is not advisable
to put it out on your collection day in case it is lost.
