What
can I put in my box?
You can put glass bottles and jars, food and drinks cans, tin foil,
clean clothes, bed linen, towels, curtains and shoes into your blue
box. Give jars or tins a quick rinse, but don’t worry about removing
the labels. And bag or double bag clothes, linen, towels or curtains
to keep them dry.
What if all my rubbish doesn’t
fit into the box?
Don’t worry – simply leave it in a suitable box or bag next
to your blue box and we will collect it on our rounds.
What should I leave out of
the box?
Creation will soon be able to collect kitchen waste, but until that
time comes, please don’t put kitchen waste out for collection.
We are also not able to process windows, drinking glasses, broken glass,
Pyrex, oily or soiled clothes.
What if I need extra help
with my box?
No problem – if you need help carrying the box from the kitchen
to the kerbside out operatives can help. Call the Recycling Helpline
to arrange for assistance.
How do I recycle things I
can’t put in my Blue Box?
At the moment Creation cannot accept plastics, card or kitchen waste
for recycling. However, the 4 Council-run Household Waste Recycling
Centres can accept these materials and many more.
We don’t produce much
waste that can be recycled, is it worth putting out my Blue Box every
week?
Creation exists not only to manage recycling, but also to create local
employment. The more Blue Boxes there are to collect, the more waste
there is to recycle and the more jobs there are. So, even if you only
have one can or one bottle, put it in your box and put your box out
for collection every week. Every little helps!
My kitchen is tiny. There
isn’t room for a Blue Box. Where can I keep it?
Many people keep theirs in a shed or garage or outside in the yard by
the bin.
I don’t like the idea
of an open box of waste. Can I get a lid?
Research across the country shows that the majority of recycling schemes
do not use lids for the following reasons:
- They frequently get lost or blown away.
- They significantly increase the time spent collecting the boxes.
- They significantly increase the total cost of the scheme.
However, it is possible to purchase a lid for £1. This money is
donated to the Mayor’s charity. Contact Creation if you want one.
If you do have a lid it is your property and cannot be replaced free
of charge. It is not advisable to put it out on your collection day
in case it is lost.
I haven’t got a Blue
Box, what can I do?
If your Blue Box goes missing, or for some reason you haven’t
got one, contact Creation and we can arrange for a replacement. We,
in turn, have to liaise with the Council in order to do this, so please
be patient as it may take a bit of time. In the meantime, continue to
leave your recycables out in a bag, box or other suitable container.
We will still collect them.
When will my Blue Box be
collected?
Collections are made every week and start at 9.00am, so if you can put
it out in the morning before you go to work.
Weekly collection routes break down roughly as follows:
Mondays – Thrybergh
Tuesdays – Eastwood
Wednesdays – East Herringthorpe / East Dene
Thursdays – East Dene / Clifton
Fridays – Herringthorpe
We continue collections over all Bank Holidays except Christmas day.
Contact Creation for more details.
Can I recycle my paper and card?
Yes, you should have received your green bag. Creation will collect any type of card cardboard and paper, your weekly collection day will be the same as your blue box and wheelie bin.
