Creation
Recycling Ltd is a not-for-profit community organisation which works
in partnership with RMBC
and is dedicated to creating jobs and opportunities in Rotherham
by addressing the increasing need for an innovative and sustainable
approach to local waste management.
Creation Recycling Ltd was set up to create opportunities and prosperity
for the local community whilst at the same time addressing the increasing
need for sustainable waste management solutions in Rotherham. Because
we are a not-for-profit organisation every penny we make from re-selling
recycled goods gets ploughed back into the project, building a successful
and prosperous community-owned business, run by local people for
local people.
Creation currently offers a weekly kerbside collection service of
dry recyclables (glass, cans and textiles) – otherwise known
as ‘blue box’ - for the Valley, Eastwood and Springwell
Gardens, East Dene, Dalton, Thrybergh and Hooton Roberts areas,
covering some 12% of the Borough of Rotherham – that’s
11,791 households. By taking part in our ‘Blue Box’
recycling scheme you can actively help us create employment, boost
the local economy and safeguard our environment for the future. |
Creation
also offers a business
collection service at very competitive rates
for glass, cans, textiles paper, card and UPV-c windows and confidential
shredding. In addition to the collection services Creation also
operates a materials handling and processing facility, which takes
all the recyclable materials collected by RMBC in the remaining
88% of the Borough.
WE EMPLOY, WE TRAIN...
Creation employs a total of 19 staff and we offer volunteer/training
placements to a variety of people including young people, asylum
seekers and adults with learning difficulties. We offer an exciting
programme of education and awareness raising to local schools as
part of their citizenship curriculum. We are
proud to have achieved Investors in People standard.
OUR FUNDING...
Creation was initially financed for a two-year action research period,
which led to self-sustainability by year 3. Funding came from a
variety of sources including SRB6, Objective 1 and Lottery CRED
funding. Year 1 funding had a high capital investment of approximately
£250k and revenue costs of £350K but generated sales
income of approximately £150k. The current running costs for
the initial kerbside collection and materials processing is estimated
at £500k per annum.
